The Story
Positive K brings Bronx character, quick wit, and a distinctive conversational style to hip-hop. Born Darryl Gibson, the rapper emerged through the independent scene in the 1980s and became one of the original artists associated with First Priority Music.
His duet with MC Lyte, “I’m Not Havin’ It,” helped introduce his voice to a wider audience. The Big Daddy Kane-produced “Nightshift” and appearances on projects by Brand Nubian and Grand Puba helped build momentum toward his debut album, The Skills Dat Pay Da Bills, released in 1992.
The album delivered his signature hit, “I Got a Man,” which reached No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1993. Its playful back-and-forth storytelling remains central to his musical identity. His catalog also includes “Ain’t No Crime” and “Carhoppers,” reflecting the humor and personality that define his work.
Beyond his foundational recordings, Positive K continues to connect with listeners through music and entertainment. His official website showcases both his music and Comedy Corner, while his streaming catalog includes later releases and renewed collaborations.
